sustainability
At Alta, we strive to be responsible global citizens who model our production and design on sustainable practices, basing every decision on the best possible choice for the environment. To this end, we believe in creating high-quality products, made locally using local materials, and with durability to last a lifetime.
We are continually learning and seeking better ways to source materials responsibly, reduce waste and energy use, offset our carbon footprint, and integrate a range of environmental, social, and economic principles throughout the entire life cycle of our products.
Here are some of the ways in which we are achieving our aims:
- We source our timber from Australian mills with either the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or the Program for Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). This means all timber we use in our manufacturing process stems from forestry companies that meet stringent requirements in terms of forest regeneration, biodiversity and protection of native fauna.
- All foam used in our products is CFC Free and 100% recyclable. Equally, our foam is sourced from Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) certified suppliers with the highest standards of social and economic responsibility.
- We aim for minimal use of plastics. We use 100% recyclable polypropylene and nylon for glides and minor internal components.
- Our premium quality upholstery fabrics are sourced from manufacturers with environmental certification and ISO 14001 standard rating. ISO 14001 certification is the internationally recognised standard to prove a company’s environmental management system meets all requirements and can be audited by an independent body.
- We use only water-based stains for timber finishing.
